Do you feel your home’s floors dip or sag in certain areas? Sagging floors are a common problem in older homes. The joists and support structure can deteriorate over the years, especially in homes built over a crawlspace. Sagging floors are a sign of structural damage and require repair to avoid further deterioration of your home. At Anglin’s Foundation & Masonry Repairs, we provide floor leveling for sagging floors over crawlspaces.

The joists that support your floors can weaken over time. It is a common occurrence, which requires the floors to be jacked back up to their original level, then supports put in place to keep them at that level. The joists may need to be repaired or reinforced, and leveling beams put in place. The trouble with houses over crawlspaces is that completing this process is more difficult.

Floor Leveling for Crawlspaces

All older homes can experience sagging floors whether they are built on a solid basement or over a crawl space. The difference is that houses built over a crawl space do not have a solid foundation to use for floor jacks and leveling beams. This is a complex issue that requires professional foundation and structure repair equipment to resolve.

Anglin’s Foundation & Masonry Repairs has repaired sagging floors all over the Atlanta, GA, area, including houses with crawlspaces. We use six-foot steel beams as the new support for the floor and keep it at the right level for years to come, but first, we need to create a foundation for the support beam. This is accomplished with the following steps:

  • Poured concrete footings are created to support the columns
  • Precast concrete-engineered supplemental footers are used to support the columns
  • Hydraulic jacks are used to raise and level the floor as close to its original position as possible
  • Joists that are weak or broken are spliced and reinforced as needed
  • Six-foot leveling beams are placed as needed at the top of the columns to support the floor joists

Since this process involves lifting a large portion of the house structure, it can be very dangerous and poses the risk of damage to the house. It should never be attempted as a DIY project – you need the right equipment and experience to do this safely. The good news is that if you live in the greater Atlanta, GA, area, Anglin’s Foundation & Masonry Repairs offers floor leveling for homes with crawlspaces. We have been serving our neighbors in Georgia for over 90 years for their foundation, masonry, and other construction needs.

If you have sagging or unlevel floors in your home, do not wait for them to become worse. Even if you have a crawlspace, we can evaluate your floor structure and recommend a solution.
